With a bat to Carl’s head, Rick made it clear he was willing to do whatever it takes to kill Negan. Having lost Glenn, Abraham, Sasha, Olivia, and Spencer, Rick sees Negan as a problem with only one solution: murder.

In Season 8, Scott Gimple said Rick Grimes “will suffer any loss, even his own self, to give his people and other people the life that they should live, where the world belongs to all of them and not just one person.”
