”I’m Not Your Governor”

The Walking Dead | Photo Credit OhSoGeeky Like the story of Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, Rick Grimes simply wants to be a farmer, but he’s forced to keep coming back as a Dictator. With these words, Rick left the Ricktatorship behind to focus on a Democracy, if only temporarily. Rick told the gang, “How you live, how you die is not up to me. I’m not your Governor…”

Despite everything he’s done and everything else he’ll have to do, Rick always believes he’s living by a moral code, even if it changes. “Everyone who made it this far, we’ve all done worse kinds of things just to stay alive—but we can still come back. We’re not too far gone.”

Similar to the beliefs of the stoics, when Rick Grimes finally discovers that every day and every life is precious, he understands that while they don’t have a chance, as long as they stay a step ahead, they can survive. “This is how we survive: We tell ourselves, We are The Walking Dead…”

Daryl Dixon was starting to give up on himself. He was traveling with the wrong kind of people and that meant nearly getting Rick killed. Rick eased the tension when he reminded Daryl, “You being back with us here, now, that’s everything. You’re my brother…”

There have been several occasions where Rick Grimes went batsh*t crazy on someone who wanted to kill him. This is what he said when the gang was caught up in the trailer outside of Terminus.

“They’re gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out they’re screwing with the wrong people,” said Rick to rally the troops. Not long after, he told Gareth, “There’s a compound bow and a machete with a red handle. That’s what I’m gonna use to kill you.”
