Was It Really Just A Dream?

At the end of the Season 8 trailer for The Walking Dead, many fans were surprised to see Rick Grimes in a bed-ridden state. For some, this meant that the “It was all a dream” scenario could come true.

If you’re unfamiliar with this fan theory, the idea is that Rick Grimes has actually been in a coma the entire time and the zombies aren’t real. This explains things like the hallucination of Lori and the appearance of Father Gabriel.

In a coma, both people regularly visit our hero. However, and the more likely scenario, is that we’re about to experience a time jump in the storyline.

Kirkman Says Premiere Will Explain

In Robert Kirkman’s comic book, there’s a huge gap between wars. Because it’s a comic book and not a drama on television, the original story sticks to the action. That means beating Negan and then moving on to the next enemy.

“I’m pretty sure you’ll learn in the first episode what means,” said Robert Kirkman in a recent panel, when asked about the “old Rick” footage from the trailer. This could be a glimpse into Rick’s future, or even a dream, based on the blurry haze around the edge of the shot.

Either way, it also looks like Rick Grimes has a cane next to his bed.

Tidbit For Comic Book Fans

“You’re supposed to be talking about that, and that is an intriguing tidbit that we did throw out there on purpose, and we’re hoping that people continue to question how it is that fits into the storyline and what it is,” said Kirkman.

“Comic book fans know where a scene that looked like that would fall, but it also doesn’t seem like we would be getting to that just yet if you were a comic book fan, so there’s a mystery to that,” he concluded.

What do you think this means for Rick Grimes in Season 8?
