Before you read this article, be warned — it is not for the faint of heart. It’s incredibly emotional and will most likely make you cry without ceasing.

In a very touching moment, Howard, a war veteran, serenades his wife who lies in a hospital bed, making one of their last memories together (photo via YouTube) Howard Serena, a 92-year-old veteran, rolls his wheelchair to the side of his dying wife’s bed. His wife of 73 years, Laura, is lying in a hospital bed, looking very frail and, sadly, dying.

“I was your best lover,” Howard tells her. “I don’t know how many other lovers you had, but I was the best.”

Everyone in the room chuckles.

“I love you,” she says.

“I love you,” he says.

“Always have,” she adds.

Some soft music begins to play — it’s the music of “You’ll Never Know” by Rosemary Clooney with Harry James. He looks into her eyes and holds back the tears.

The song opens with:

You’ll never know just how much I miss you

You’ll never know just how much I care

And if I tried, I still couldn’t hide my love for you

You ought to know, for haven’t I told you so

This would be one of their last memories together. And a good one at that.

It was actually Howard who passed away eight months later with his wife right by his side. Five days after that, Laura passed away. Thus ending a long and wonderful example of true love.

The romantic song has been recorded by Willie Nelson, Frank Sinatra, Bette Midler, and The Mamas & The Papas, among many others.

If you’d like to cry, you can watch the whole scene play out on YouTube.
