When Donald Trump takes the oath of office–he will do it using two Bibles. The first is the Lincoln Bible. The second was given to him by his mother in 1955, when he was only eight years old.
Swearing in on the Bible is not a requirement, but it has become a traditional part of the inauguration ceremonies. Thanks in large part to the father of our nation, President George Washington.
Washington brought his inauguration to a screeching halt when he noticed there was no Bible present. Coming to the rescue was Jacob Morton. The Master of the nearby Masonic Lodge quickly grabbed an altar Bible for Washington to use.
