First of all, I realize we cover rescue dogs here and many are mixed breeds. That said, ultimately all rescues have dominating DNA. Therefore the odds of them being more purebred is always possible. Do you see any of the following qualities in your big family dog?

My oldest son’s Rhodesian Ridgeback is a rescue dog and the family loves him! Ridgebacks are even-tempered, intelligent family protectors, and great hunting partners. Bred to hunt lions, they are known as the African lion hound.

The Irish Wolfhound Is A Big Family Dog

Originally used as a war dog, the Irish Wolfhound, is a highly adaptable breed. They are always ready to play, easy to train, and loyal to the end. Although they need exercise to maintain health, these dogs enjoy being giant couch potatoes. If you can accommodate a big family dog, this could be your pick.
