Variety Reveals Best Of The Worst

Variety just came out with a new poll to discuss the best of the worst. The Walking Dead’s newest villain is a bat carrying psychopath who lives by his own rules, but in the past, we’ve seen some other iconic television characters.

The series has proven that those alive can be far worse than the dead and the list includes the Governor who took Hershel’s head, the Terminus cannibals, Officer Dawn Lerner, the Wolves and Rick’s old buddy, Shane Walsh.

The poll received over 2,500 votes.

Negan and the Saviors won the best of the worst, with a little over 50 percent of the vote. Silver went to the Governor, followed by Shane Walsh in third place. Finally, there’s Garth, then the Wolves and Officer Dawn Lerner came in last place.

The poll makes sense and it may also have to do with the amount of screen time involved with the characters. The poll also centers around “Favorite Villains” and it may not be the same if it were listed as most evil (Joe or Gareth) or something similar.

Negan and the Saviors are the favorites despite rating declines in Season 7 on AMC.

Will Rick Ever Be As Evil As Negan?

Many fans and cast members feel like the audience would love the Saviors even more if they had grown up with the Saviors. The idea here is that if we had been following Negan instead of Rick, we would like Negan and hate Rick.

From their point-of-view, this means we would see what Negan has built, understand why he has to kill people (despite the brutality involved), and know that Rick crossed a line by killing those at the outpost.

The only problem with this idea is the premiere episode where Glenn and Abraham are killed. It still seems too brutal to watch Negan kill Glenn in front of his wife and friends, but it could likely be compared to when Rick killed Pete.

At the end of Season 5, in front of civilians much weaker than Rick’s crew, our fearless leader executed Pete at Deanna’s request without a second thought. Perhaps Rick and Negan are more alike than we’ve ever considered.
