Border Security And The Cost Of America’s Freedoms

Border security here in America is a hot button topic. The debate over how America secures and defends its borders has this nation at odds. The price for America’s freedoms seems to have been forgotten by many in this country. However, if you ask any single American veteran, they will confirm that the price of our freedoms is nothing less than death.

Border Security Is A Nation’s Responsibility

This is the price every veteran signs up for and agrees to without hesitation. Yet, we have those who would bicker over a price tag when it comes to securing our own borders.

They must remember that although our veterans leave our country on a routine basis to fight for our freedoms and way of life, they leave their families behind. These same families like all American families, deserve to be safe and secure.

If for no other reason, we owe our veterans the respect and honor to do our part to ensure that while they are out fighting for us, we are making sure we keep their families safe. That is part of America’s responsibility to all of its citizens.

Border Security Overview

Protecting our borders from the illegal movement of weapons, drugs, contraband, and people, while promoting lawful entry and exit, is essential to homeland security, economic prosperity, and national sovereignty.

The previous description is the overall combination of what border security entails. America shares 7,000 miles of land border with Canada and Mexico, as well as rivers, lakes and coastal waters around the country.

These borders are vital economic gateways that account for trillions of dollars in trade and travel each year. Some of America’s largest cities and communities are located near or at these borders. So, the safety of these cities, like the rest of America, is paramount.

Border Security And A Safer America

This among other reasons is why our border security must be strong, vigilant, and unwavering. The Department of  Homeland Security works tirelessly to secure our borders through the deployment of personnel, technology, and infrastructure.

They also work closely with our neighbors in Canada and Mexico, as well as our many federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial partners.

At the heart of our border security is the actual personnel themselves. This includes Border Patrol agents, agriculture specialists, Air, and Marine agents. They all play a part in guarding America’s borders and being our front lines of defense.

Increase Border Security And Increase Safety

These men and women prevent terrorists and their weapons from entering the United States. In addition, they seize contraband, apprehend criminals, and others who illegally attempt to enter the United States.

Having said that, it will honestly never be enough. Simply put, we cannot rest on our laurels, because the threat to our nation is constantly evolving. Furthermore, this threat does not take a day off, so America cannot take a day off. To do so could bring about disaster.

However, through increases in Border Patrol staffing, construction of new infrastructure, and fencing we can meet this threat head-on. These efforts also require the use of advanced technology including sensors, radar, and aerial assets to help our personnel meet the ever-changing threat to our country.
