After last season’s pacing issues, the creators of the series have promised a brand new style of storytelling for this new season. Not only that, but fans can also expect to see the adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s All-Out War series.

Showrunner Scott Gimple has promised that the season premiere will be “less about that we reached 100 episodes [and] more about setting up the next 100.”

Scott Gimple revealed:

“The turn of the story is really going to dictate the structure of the story and the speed of the story. The things that they are getting into demand a more kinetic narrative. The pace is accelerated by virtue of the things that they’re up to. Preparing For Season 9, And Beyond

“There’s aspects to talking about season nine like that. We try to reinvent the show every eight episodes and I believe the differences between season seven and eight are going to be quite pronounced just by virtue of the narrative.”

With all of this in mind, it’s clear that The Walking Dead will be around for a long time to come.
