Every time the Democrats lose, they want to change the Electoral College. Much like their response in 2000, the Democrats are at it again. Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer has introduced a bill to end the Electoral College.

CNN reports that Boxer was an “outspoken reporter of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election, [and she will] introduce a Senate bill that aims to end the Electoral College.”

The bill would stop the Electoral College and instead, use the popular vote. “She cited President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the Electoral College despite Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s apparent popular vote advantage,” which is quite similar to reactions during the Bush win over Gore.

The Uncertain Popular Vote

With the Electoral College, however, we don’t really know who won the popular vote. Each state has their own calculations, but there is no certified number since we have another system in play.

“In my lifetime, I have seen two elections where the winner of the general election did not win the popular vote,” Boxer claims. “The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts.”

Since Boxer is actually on her way out the door, perhaps this is merely grandstanding, or perhaps she’s being used by the Democrats since any closing arguments won’t distress her future.

Amendment Changes and Beyond

The real problem is that such a claim will require a constitutional amendment. Doing so would need a two-third majority vote in the House and Senate, along with a three-quarters vote of states.

Such a drastic act brings up a few questions. If this was a need, other than something wanted after a loss, they should have tried this in 2009 and 2010 when they had 60 votes in the Senate. Perhaps they were too busy working to push Obamacare.

Also, why didn’t Boxer tell Hillary Clinton they wouldn’t accept the vote for President unless they used the popular vote, before the election?

Democrats need to understand that they lost because blue collar workers care about jobs more than melodramatic warnings about global warming. Focusing on facts, versus getting caught up in emotional hype, is what will make America great again.
