Even though Ter Stegen made a terrible mistake in the last match, Barcelona will offer him a new deal. Mistakes are a part of football, and Stegen is a vital part of Barcelona’s system.
He’s still young, and needs to improve. But he’s already showing signs of a world-class goalkeeper, especially in the Barcelona system.
His passing qualities is what make him the perfect goalkeeper for teams like Barcelona and now Man City. Ter Stegen apologized for the mistake against Celta Vigo, and took the responsibility.
“He is a fundamental piece of the furniture at Barcelona. He is a mainstay of our team and our commitment to him is strong.” – Josep Maria Bartomeu
Every goalkeeper in the world that is asked to take risks will end up with making few mistakes per season. Bravo made mistakes, Valdes made mistakes and Ter Stegen will surely make more mistakes in the future.
The important thing that Barcelona fans need to understand is that a goalkeeper that takes risks is vital for the tiki-taka possession game.
The goalkeeper is actually a big part of the team. He’s asked to pass the ball under pressure, instead of just shooting it far away from the goal.
And of course, the offensive players of the opposite team are doing their best to make things difficult for Ter Stegen, just like they did for Victor Valdes.
Will Barcelona sell Rakitic if Juventus sends an offer in January?
Rakitic is just another example of how a player can be effective without scoring goals or assisting. The Croatian was brought to replace Xavi, and he’s doing an excellent job. He does not possess the passing qualities, and the ability to control the game.
But on the other hand, Rakitic is better at defending. He can cope with physically strong defenders, and he doesn’t lose the ball often. He’s not the creative genius of Barcelona, because that is Iniesta’s job after all.
Rakitic was the key player when Barcelona won the last Champions League title against Juventus. He even scored the first goal of the game, and gave Barcelona the lead.
This is not the first time Rakitic was linked with Juventus, but there was no an official offer from the Italian club. Things can change now, after Juventus sold Pogba for $100+ millions.
Yes, they already spent a fortune on Higuain, but maybe they’re planning to sell one more star player to afford Rakitic?
However, selling Rakitic is not a good idea. He adapted to the system as expected, and he’s a useful player in both defensive and offensive roles.
Gomes is still adapting, and losing a key player at half season would be a bad move. But maybe if Juventus and Barcelona could make a deal that includes Rakitic’s departure and bringing Dybala to Camp Nou, things could work out.
But in case of a Rakitic-Dybala swamp deal, Barcelona will end up spending millions, losing a key midfielder and buying a player that will probably sit on the bench for a while.
