Have you ever insulted someone then later they ended up having some sort of power over you? Yeah, that’s called irony, and it happened to a well-known NASCAR driver.

In ’08, Michael Waltrip caused a crash, upsetting fellow racer Clint Bowyer. But in ’12, Waltrip had the upperhand (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images) Back in 2008 during a race in Bristol, NASCAR pro Michael Waltrip caused an accident on the track, and it resulted in some pretty bad damage to the No. 7 car.

The No. 7 car was driven by Clint Bowyer.

Bowyer was not happy about it, to say the lest. After the crash, he expressed his emotions to his team.

“Michael Waltrip is the worst driver in NASCAR, period,” he said. “I can’t believe NAPA signed back on.”

That’s a pretty funny quote in hindsight. At least, for everyone by Bowyer.

Beginning in the 2012 season, Bowyer signed to a team as a driver. That team was owned by none other than Waltrip. Fortunately, Waltrip was able to poke some fun at the incident from ’08.

During a press conference to announce the signing of Bowyer to his team, Waltrip asked a pointed question of the racer.

“Now Clint, when you said I was the worst driver, did you mean of all-time or just this era?” Waltrip asked Bowyer.

Bowyer could do nothing but laugh — I mean, what else could he do in front of his new boss? He either had to risk his spot on the team or just eat his own words.

He chose wisely.

“You never know when you are going to have to eat your words, but Michael promised me he would be the best owner ever,” Bowyer replied.
