The empty apartment sketch was a powerful bit this year on Big Bang Theory.
It left us wondering, will new friends be joining The Big Bang Theory gang in Season 11?
Towards the end of The Big Bang Theory Season 10, we saw the TBBT boys react to their lab being cleaned out by the US Government. The whole gang has gathered to celebrate the finish of their project, but the excitement was short lived. After returning next day the guys found all their work confiscated, without a trace of their hard work left behind.
To make matters worse, when they got home they found the same thing had happened to their apartment- or so they thought. It turned out they’d just walked into the wrong apartment on the third floor, but it sure did scare Sheldon for a moment.

We wondered, why would the show’s producers and writers add in this silly moment? Is this foreshadowing of a new arrival. The entire series began when Penny moved in across from Sheldon and Leonard, perhaps someone new will be joining the cast and moving into the downstairs apartment.

Well, we can dream, but it seems that isn’t the case. Steve Molaro explained, “Honestly, I pitched it [the empty apartment] as a ridiculous joke that I need to get out of my head. It was just a visual sight gag on the heels of their lab in the security building being cleaned out for them to then come home and the apartment to appear to be cleaned out as well.”
So it turns out this was nothing but the writers wanting to have a little fun. Molaro added, “It was really nothing more than a joke I thought we would never even do because it sounded difficult to have to empty out our entire set. In fact, we did not empty out our entire set, we rebuilt the apartment on the stage empty.”
Can you believe The Big Bang Theory cast and crew went through all that trouble just for one silly bit?
