Just one day after Bernie Sanders supporter, James Hodgkinson opened fired on Republican congressman in Arlington, VA, more threats started pouring in. One email, in particular, brought with it what appeared to be an ominous warning about the potential for more attacks on conservatives in government. It started out with an eerie introduction that simply said “One-down, 216 to go.

The frightening email was sent to freshman New York Congresswoman, Claudia Tenney. The subject line of the email asked, “Did you NOT expect this?” Obviously referencing the shooting of House Majority Whip, Steve Scalise, and three others the day prior, the writer goes on to list what seemed to be their own personal grievances.

“When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before.” 

The author ended their threatening note with “Good riddance.” Hannah Andrews, communication director for Tenney, said they have received threats like this before, but they were “particularly alarmed” by this one given it was received the day after the shooting.
