Airport officer, Lt. Jeff Neville, was stabbed on Wednesday morning in what authorities are investigating as a “terror incident.” Neville was working at the Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan, when a man allegedly ran-up to him shouting “Allahu Akbar” before stabbing him in the neck.
Neville was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but his condition has since been upgraded to stable. The FBI is on scene and the airport has been evacuated and closed as a security precaution. Bishop airport officials released the following statement:
“All passengers are safe and are being evacuated at this time. Please check with your airline for potential cancellations or delays.”
Police have confirmed they have suspect in custody who is being questioned, but have not released his identity. Multiple news outlets, however, have reported that the suspect is Canadian. Flint City Hall has begun operating on a heightened state of alert as a precaution, while the FBI conducts their investigation.
“Right now we are still awaiting more information about the situation at Bishop Airport this morning,” Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said. “My thoughts and prayers are with all of our law enforcement officers who work to service and protect us each and every day. I want the public to know that several agencies are involved and working to ensure the situation is under control.”

This attack comes just two days after a white suspect plowed his van into a crowd of Muslim worshippers outside of a high-profile London Mosque. One man was killed and 10 other were wounded. Bishop airport is located approximately one hour away from the city of Dearborn, which boasts one of the highest Muslim populations in the U.S.
