The Tuesday before the inauguration, two polls were released. These polls, from ABC and CNN, claim that Donald Trump is the most unfavorable incoming president in modern history. But, is the data credible?

These polls are clearly altered by the pollers’ decision to take a greater number of Democrats into the sample. According to Gallup, 28 percent of Americans are Republican, while only 25 percent are Democrats.

In these ABC and CNN polls, eight percent more Democrats were polled, which would create an 11-point swing in partisanship when compared to the national average that Gallup had calculated.

ABC’s poll consisted of 1,005 adults nationwide. However, only 23 percent of these individuals were Republicans. On the other hand, 31 percent of these participants identified as Democrats, 37 percent were Independent, and 9 percent didn’t answer.

ABC concluded that 40 percent liked Trump while 54 percent did not like Trump.
