Lots of television stars are in the new film, Shot Caller, which looks a little bit like HBO’s The Night Of, on steroids. The stars of the film come from The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Burn Notice, among others.

Ric Roman Waugh, who also wrote Snitch (The Rock), wrote and directed this film which stars Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), Nikolaj Coster-Waldeau (Game of Thrones), and Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice).

Other notable actors include Benjamin Bratt and Lake Bell.

Prison Gangsters In Southern California

In Shot Caller, “A newly released prison gangster is forced by the leaders of his gang to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California,” writes IMDB.

Like The Night Of, the film takes a man who went to prison due to an accident, or wrongful circumstances, and puts him a position where he must change his mind, body, and moral code in order to survive. Essentially, the prison turns a sheep into a wolf and then spits him back out into society.

At that point, there’s really no turning back.

Shot Caller Premieres At Cannes

Variety writes:

“Shooting begins May 26 in New Mexico. Sierra/Affinity sold “Shot Caller” at Cannes to Constantin for German-speaking Europe, Entertainment One for the U.K., Notorious Pictures for Italy, Sun Distribution for Latin America and VVS for Canada. Relativity came on board last month for U.S. rights.”

“Coster-Waldau will play the lead in the film, which follows a gangster recently released from prison and forced to orchestrate a major crime on the streets of Southern California. Waugh, who broke into the business as a stuntman, went undercover as a volunteer parole agent in California to research prison gangs for his script.”

What do you think of Jon Bernthal’s performance, based on the trailer?
