Shay Mooney from Dan + Shay is expecting his first child with his fiance, Hanna Billingsly. He announced this exciting fact on October 8 using Twitter: “Gonna have a new band member in the Mooney family…2017 is gonna be the start of our best adventure yet!”

Shay and Hannah were engaged to be married in August 2016 and, you guessed it, shared that event on social media too. Shay shared a photo on Instagram saying, “She’s stuck with me now.”

More good news for Shay Mooney

Although an engagement and a new baby are huge, life-changing news, Shay is used to good news, at least recently.

Dan + Shay just had back-to-back No. 1 hits: “Nothin’ Like You” and “From The Ground Up” from their second album, “Obsessed.” The two fellows wrote the latter song in a state of emotion.

“It’s a song we wrote at an emotional time, my grandfather had just passed away and Shay’s grandfather was in the hospital,” Dan told Rolling Stone. “We were chatting about how our grandparents were married for 60-plus years.”

The new father Shay weighed in on this song too, saying the songs he writes are like his children.

“To write a song like ‘From the Ground Up,’ we’re so proud of it,” Shay said. “It’s like your kids. It’s bigger than us. Every now and then you write that one and you’re like, I don’t know how that happened but that song used us to get out there. It was waiting to be written.”

Sounds Like Nashville describes “From the Ground Up,”: “plays out like a romantic film…[it] paints the picture of a couple hoping to build their lives and love like their grandparents’ long lasting marriage before them. Dan + Shay’s beautiful harmonies alongside a soaring string arrangement makes their single one of the standout moments on Obsessed.’”

So how was the album’s title track conceived?

“We always listen to our fans on Twitter and are looking at everything they say,” Shay says, according to CMT.com. “We would always see ‘Obsessed.’ ‘I’m obsessed with this Dan + Shay song,’ or ‘I’m obsessed with Dan + Shay.’ We ended up writing that song, and it just made sense. It kind of wrapped up everything about this album.”

And Shay’s musical partner has only good things to say about him. It’s like their two parents raising little songs and watching them grow into maturity.

“Obviously Shay is the best singer ever,” Dan says. “It’s fun to listen to our evolution and get these songs out there. We’re super proud of every single song on the record.”

Shay agrees.

“I think it’s a new step for Dan + Shay,” Shay says. “It’s a little more mature. We’re stoked about it.”

Dan + Shay tour dates:

“We have been so humbled by the response to our new album and can’t wait to perform live for our fans this fall,” Dan says. “Our fans inspired the title of the “Obsessed” album, so it was only fitting to name the tour after the album.”
