Meditating is a wonderful experience and a great way to grow internally. For someone who hasn’t meditated before, it can be intimidating. If people get into a mindset of thinking they’re not able to meditate right.

The reality is there is no right or wrong way to meditate. These ten tips for meditation will shed some light on the practice and hopefully help you meditate.

Just Be for 3-5 Minutes

Before you try to do anything while meditating, sit. Give yourself a few minutes to just be as you are where you are. Use this time to ground yourself, and become one with the present moment. Notice yourself and the space you take up. How all this space is around you and all this stuff is in the space. Pay special attention to the space your body takes up.

Do it First Thing in the Morning

Meditate first thing in the morning. Do it prior to doing anything else, before your mind has a chance to wake up and absorb any outside influences. Find a safe place, where you can sit alone without being disturbed. Make sure to let people know to leave you alone for a period of time. It’s important to remember, it’s your time.

Just Do it

No matter how you feel, meditate. Find a way to make time for this special moment each day. Meditation is for you and you alone. Taking the time out to do it will improve your life day by day. Let go of the habit of making excuses and make it happen. There really is no reason that you can’t meditate.

Notice your Feelings

Pay attention to your feelings. Meditation can bring up deep seated emotions and paying attention to them is essential. Your feelings are there for a reason and paying attention to them is essential for your health and wellbeing. Think of them as sign posts. When you feel a certain feeling, you can follow it with the question, why am I feeling this right now?

Count Your Breath

Make sure to pay attention to your breathing. Count your breaths while you breathe in and out. A good count to start with is a 5 count. Start with 5 counts in as you breathe and then 5 counts out as you breathe. Counting your breath is a great way to return to the source and center yourself when your mind starts to wonder.

Bring it Back When you Begin to Wonder

Your mind will begin to wonder at some point. There’s no stopping it from wondering. But you can learn to bring yourself back to your center. The more you practice this habit, the more balanced you will become and the farther the distance will be to your wondering mind.

Practice Loving Yourself

This is the most important tip on meditation. Love yourself while you meditate. Spend at least one meditation a week practicing love for yourself. Get lost in who you are. Meditate on your perfect imperfection. Love your body, love your mind and love your soul. Remember that you are so much more than just a body going through life. Remember that you have been put here to experience the divine unfoldment of the Universe in every second. Remember there is nothing you can do to change who you are at your core. You deserve to love yourself in every moment of every day.

Don’t Worry If You’re Doing it Right or Not

Forget about judgement when it comes to meditation. You’re doing it right. Even if you think you’re not, you are. Meditation is a practice that you can perform anywhere and at any time. It’s about being ok with who you are. Love and accept who you are.

Stop Trying So Hard to Clear Your Mind

Stop trying so hard to make things happen. Just let it happen, let your mind be as it is how it is. When you try to force things, it rarely works. And you can’t force meditation, you just let it all go and be how you are. However you are is ok, however you feel is ok. Self-acceptance is the most important factor of meditation.

Let Whatever Happens Happen

Whatever happens when you meditate is how it’s supposed to be. When you can let go and accept the present moment, you will get the most out of your practice.  How you do everything is how you do anything.

Hopefully, now that you have these ten tips on meditation, you can go meditate now and let go of beating yourself up for being a human being!
