The cast and crew discuss their thoughts on various points of the season, but Greg Nicotero is really the one to shine some light on the subject. As you recall, Eugene gave Sasha a pill, which gave her the ability to kill herself.

She nearly took a bite out of Negan when he opened her coffin.

“We open on Sasha in black and we don’t know what she’s doing. It’s a breathtaking and emotional and thrilling episode,” said Nicotero. “In fact, it was an episode which brought back Abraham Ford, Negan’s first victim who had been killed in the Season Seven premiere, for a flashback scene with Sasha. Sasha’s entire character motivation, everything that she did, she did because of what she said to Abraham…”

He’s referring to the point where Sasha tells Abraham, “Maggie’s gotta take care of Maggie.”

“The minute that she says that, she realizes that it was something that she regrets,” Nicotero points out. Abraham’s response also heavily influenced the character, as he tells Sasha, “She’s carrying the future. It’s always for someone else.” Nicotero then said her story and this episode is critical for Sasha.

Later in the conversation, Sonequa Martin-Greene also said she’s very appreciative of the “strange and haunting beauty” to Sasha’s warrior death. Even though she seemed trapped, she could still die as a warrior.

“Sasha’s storyline is amazing,” confirmed Rick Grimes-actor Andrew Lincoln. “It is one of those incredibly heart-wrenching but powerful and heroic sacrifices,” he concluded, especially since it was in last season’s final episode.

The seventh season Blu-ray will come out on August 22, 2017.

Do you think we’ll see any flashbacks of Sasha as we enter Season 8 of the show?
