David Lynch is kind of a spooky guy. If you’re not familiar with Lynch, he created the Twin Peaks series and directed films like Lost Highway. Blue Velvet was another of his movies, they’re all very bizarre to say the least. Lynch is one of the most successful directors in the cult genre of cinematography. The director hasn’t missed a day of Transcendental meditation in 43 years. He attributes all of his success to the practice and encourages everyone to partake.

The director, who lives in Los Angeles, recently gave support to Georgetown University’s School of Medicine. The support was given to clinical psychiatrist, Norman Rosenthal. Rosenthal was speaking about his new book he’s released called, “Super Mind: How to Boost Performance and Live a Richer and Happier Life Through Transcendental Meditation.”

David Lynch who is now 70 years old, said he believes Transcendental Meditation is the secret to everything.

What is Transcendental Meditation?

He refers to illnesses in general. Most illnesses are related to stress. Stress is definitely strong enough to kill you. Just look at any people who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder he says. Take a look at our veterans, stress is enough to shut a person down entirely he claims. It can literally take you away from being human. According to Lynch, the best way to get rid of stress is to practice transcendental meditation every day.

Lynch says that at some point it will all click.  You’ll either reach a point of being fed up with the struggle or become a type of seeker. You’ll understand there is more to life then you previously anticipated. And in time you will truly begin to know yourself. It’s a beautiful experience Lynch says. And it includes true happiness.

The secret of happiness though, according to Lynch, is that it is within you. He also goes into detail about ideas and creativity. Lynch swears by meditation for both, he says if you want more ideas, then meditate more. The ideas are always out there, it’s up to you to catch them as they pass.

David Lynch Practices Transcendental MeditationSuccess, according to Lynch isn’t really in our control. You only control the actions, not the fruits of the action. Say you are shooting a film and anticipate a Blockbuster film, well you can put a ton of work into it but there is no guarantee. You just cannot always predict what is going to happen. But Lynch also adds if you believe in your work and do the best you can, that’s the real success. It never matters what the world thinks, what matters is what you think.

Of course you hope your work is received well. But if it’s not, it’s not like it will kill you. On the other hand, if you sell out and do something you despise and then it busts, you’re going to hurt a lot because you failed and at something you didn’t believe in.

Why is Transcendental Meditation so Good?

He also adds that people who think Transcendental Meditation is too weird, is probably closed off because of society. They are just trying to be like everyone else, they want a house and a car and 2.5 children. They think they need money to get peace, not understanding the peace comes from within. That’s the way Lynch put it into words, just 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon and watch things change for you forever.
