U.S. Prepares For Preemptive Strike

Nuke Sniffer | Photo Credit Aviationist The United States is fully prepared to launch a preemptive strike, using conventional weapons, if North Korea officials continue with a nuclear weapons test, according to senior U.S. intelligence officials.

North Korea has repeatedly warned that a “big event” is near, which means a nuclear test could happen within the next week. The U.S. has put two destroyers with Tomahawk cruise missiles in place, one as close as 300 miles to the test site.

Other bombers are positions in Guam just in case an addition attack on North Korea will also be necessary.

NBC News reports:

“The U.S. strike could include missiles and bombs, cyber and special operations on the ground. The danger of such an attack by the U.S. is that it could provoke the volatile and unpredictable North Korean regime to launch its own blistering attack on its southern neighbor.”

“The leadership in North Korea has shown absolutely no sign or interest in diplomacy or dialogue with any of the countries involved in this issue,” Victor Cha, the Korea Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies told NBC News Thursday.”

BBC reports:

“Foreign Minister Wang Yi said if war occurred there could be no winner. Mr Wang’s comments come as the US voices increasing concern at North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons and deploys a Navy carrier group off the Korean peninsula. China, North Korea’s only backer, fears conflict could cause the regime to collapse and problems on its border.”

“Mr Wang said: “Lately, tensions have risen between on the one hand the United States and the Republic of Korea [South Korea] and on the other, the DPRK [North Korea] and one has the feeling that a conflict could break out at any moment. “I think that all relevant parties should be highly vigilant with regards to this situation.”
