Morgan’s (Second) Complete Breakdown

During “Bury Me Here,” Morgan had a full breakdown and change of character. Benjamin was killed and this led to Morgan killing Richard with his bare hands. Something else happened to Morgan in this episode.

Obviously, Morgan saw Benjamin as a son-like protégé so his death stirred up some emotions about his own son, Duane. When Morgan was killing Richard, he was likely considering both Benjamin and his son Duane, who he couldn’t protect.

Despite this reaction, is it possible that Morgan’s son is still alive?

Morgan had lost his mind when Rick found him hiding in an abandoned town four years earlier. Rick asked Morgan about his son Duane, from the pilot episode, as Morgan was one of the first survivors Rick met.

Rick found out that Morgan couldn’t bring himself to kill his reanimated wife. His son Duane froze when she came after him. Morgan told Rick, “She was just…just on him. And I see red. I see red. Everything is red. Everything I see is red.”

It’s both description and non-descriptive at the same time.

What If Duane Is Still Alive?

Morgan’s always been a man who spoke in metaphors, but when Rick bluntly asked him if Duane was dead, he replied, “No” and “He will be.” Perhaps Duane has been reanimated, but there’s still a chance that he’s alive.

The chances of Duane being alive are slim, but it could have been a situation like Glenn’s fake dumpster death from Morgan’s perspective. Seeing his son “die” may have simply pushed Morgan in a false state-of-mind.

If Duane were still alive, he could show up later and help his father. The world is much smaller today, so if Duane were to be Carl’s age now, he could be on the move and he may end up at Hilltop, Alexandria, or even the Kingdom.

It’s an unlikely fan theory, but not completely out of left field.

Do you think there’s any chance Duane might still be alive?
