During the HUD Confirmation Hearing on Thursday, Ben Carson, made it clear to the Senate Democrats that Equal rights don’t mean extra rights.

His response to Sen. Sherrod Brown regarding enforcing LGBT protections was rather straight to the point.

Ben Carson stated, “Of course, I would enforce all the laws of the land.”

He added afterward, “What I have said before is I don’t think anyone should get ‘extra right.’”

His response on the matter made it real clear that he is adamant in his statement regarding extra rights. His opening speech to the Senate Committee involves a brief story of his mom’s struggle with “housing insecurity.”

“She didn’t have any skills, basically a third-grade education, and we had no place to live,” he said. “She couldn’t afford the house so we ended up moving to Boston, moving in with relatives. So I have actually in my life understood what housing insecurity was. And we were there in Boston for a couple of years.”

He said his mother told him, “The person who has the most to do with determining where you live is you.” Ben Carson has been previously criticized regarding…

When this issue was brought up, he immediately stated that his views had been distorted by many people.

He said that the act involves wanting the people receiving HUD grants to look for problems and find a solution themselves.

He also said that he does not have any problem with affirmative action or integration. He does have a problem, however, with people dictating how things should “be done when they have no idea what’s going on in an area.”

A rather tough question was raised by Sen. Elizabeth Warren asking if President-elect Donald Trump might benefit from the HUD programs.

Carson responded flatly saying that he will not be playing favorites for anyone. He is motivated by a sense of morals and values.

Sen. Warren again asked for an assurance and Carson stated that “It will not be my intention to benefit any American. I will manage things in a way that benefits the American people.”

The confirmation meeting has surely been a tough battle for the former presidential candidate, Ben Carson. Nevertheless, he remained firm on his words that he will be implementing equal rights and that no one will be getting extra rights.
