Saying there is a downside to government-funded healthcare, is like saying a category five hurricane is just a summer storm.
Not only does it lead to death panels, but it also strips away the rights of individuals, especially parents, to take care of their children the way they see fit. Case in point is little 10-month old Charlie Gard.

Charlie, who has a rare genetic condition with no known cure, is being cared for at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in the U.K. His parents have been fighting the European court system to bring their baby to the U.S., where an experimental treatment is available that could save his life. However, despite their pleas and having raised over a million dollars to make the trip, the courts have denied their request and condemned little Charlie to die.
Charlie’s life support was supposed to have been discontinued this past Friday, but that was postponed after a massive public outcry and call from Pope Francis. Then, in an 11th-hour intervention, President Trump stepped in. On Monday morning, the president tweeted his support for the family and offered to help them any way possible.
“If we can help little #CharlieGard as per our friends in the U.K. and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so,” said President Trump. It remains unclear what type of influence the president may have, if any, on the situation given that the courts have ruled on the case. However, just his willingness to help sheds light on the type of man he is. Charlie’s mom, Connie Yates, shared the tweet on her Facebook, posting “If he’s still fighting, we’re still fighting.”

While President Trump’s offer to help Charlie and his parents have earned him praise, it also brought out the worst in his detractors. After the tweet had gone out, hundreds of social media users took the time to bash him, suggesting he was a hypocrite for wanting to help an innocent baby while robbing Americans of their Obamacare.
Nonetheless, millions of people around the world are praying for a miracle for little Charlie and his family. Charlies remains on life support, and there has been no word on whether or not the courts will change their ruling. We can only hope they will take President Trump up on his offer.
