Anything can happen in Canada. Or something like that. At least, in Canada, you can see Feist covering a Leonard Cohen song.

The late Leonard Cohen has been covered hundreds of times by artsits from all different genres (photo via The Daily Beast) At the 2017 Juno Awards in Ottowa, Canada, the late great songwriter and musician Leonard Cohen was honored many times throughout the night. He won Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for his last album, You Want It Darker.

But the honors didn’t stop there.

Fellow Canadian artist Feist wanted to join in on the honoring. She did that by covering Cohen’s song “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye” from the album Songs of Leonard Cohen.

Feist, as seen in the below video, is supported by two female vocalists. And, man, did they nail it. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau actually introduced the three women, and as he did so, photos of Cohen flashed on the screen behind him. Consequence of Sound called the presentation a “sparse and touching rendition” to Cohen.

Feist was happy to pay tribute to one of the greatest songwriters of all time, as she made clear on Instagram.

“Holding space for Mr.Cohen himself on the #junos tonight with my sirens-at-arms @snowblinksees and @shesingsseashells,” she said along with the below photo.

Feist is not alone.

She is, not surprisingly, among a long list of artists who have covered Cohen’s songs, including Jeff Buckley, R.E.M., Joe Cocker, and even Eric Church.

And as Cohen himself once said, we need to enjoy life to the fullest.

“When things get really bad, just raise your glass and stamp your feet and do a little jig,” he said. “That’s about all you can do.”
