These DIY crafts on a budget will challenge the relatable meme for crafters that says, “DIY something I can buy for $15 using $30 worth of craft supplies.”

I mean, let’s be honest. It happens. And there’s nothing wrong with that! You get to customize something generic, something anyone can just buy. And what’s important is that you make it your own, you create.

So here you go, 4 DIY projects under $10:

DIY Crafts on a Budget # 1: Necklace Holders http://www.quesarahsera.com/2015/02/diy-arrow-necklace-holder/

If you want an Arrow Jewelry Holder, the first thing you should do is to build the arrow. You can make an arrow from wooden pallets, cut plywood or any piece of wood. Attach some hooks on the arrow, and paint the whole thing with your desired color. You can install this to a wall using screws on wall hooks.

A more rustic version of this craft can be made using an old wood plank or distressed wood. Just look for them in your backyard or garage, or ask your neighbors. You could choose to paint, varnish, or leave it as it is. The next thing you’re going to do is to attach cheap knobs from the dollar store. Mount it to the wall and you have something to hang your necklaces on.

Alternatively, you could just bend old forks instead of knobs to function as hooks. This project can also be used to organize your keys.

DIY Crafts on a Budget # 2: Picture Frame Luminaries http://www.thatswhatchesaid.net/picture-frame-luminaries/

For this project, just choose four of your favorite pictures. (You right now: JUST FOUR!?) I know. It’s hard to choose, right? You could make multiple luminaries if you can’t choose just four. If you can just choose three, you could make this using three frames instead.

You then have to scan them, apply a black and white or grayscale effect, and print them on pure vellum paper. The next thing you need to do is put them on separate picture frames. Make sure that the picture is on top of the glass.

Then, you glue the frames together to form an enclosed square. Get a square mirror, put a tea candle on it, place the luminary above the mirror, and you’re done! This will be perfect as a centerpiece or simply a decoration in your living room.

DIY Crafts on a Budget # 3: Animal Candle Holders http://rainonatinroof.com/2014/01/diy-animal-candleholders/http://rainonatinroof.com/2014/01/diy-animal-candleholders/

These animal candle holders will bring an elegant look to wherever you decide to put them.

The first step is to look for plastic or rubber animal figures in toy stores or toy section of department stores. Choose animals standing on all fours to assure the candle will not topple over. Next step is to pay for it and go home. Haha.

Upon going home, drill a hole that is barely enough for the candle’s base to fit at the back of the animal figure. Make sure to not drill through the figure’s belly. Paint the animal figure with the desired color and you’re done!

Note: If you’re working with a plastic animal figure that is hollow on the inside, the best thing is to use it as a cast. You can fill it with cement or plaster of Paris to make an animal statue that will be more sturdy.

DIY Crafts on a Budget # 4: Chalkboard Mug http://www.handimania.com/diy/chalkboard-mug.html

Okay, this is very straightforward. Buy a porcelain mug from the dollar store, or use a mug you already have. Just make sure it’s porcelain. Then, you would want to put painter’s tape halfway through the glass. Paint the bottom half with porcelain chalkboard paint, let it dry, and remove the painter’s tape. That’s it!

Note: The reason why you don’t want to paint the whole mug is because it is indicated on the paint’s packaging to not let food get in contact with it. It also says however that it’s nontoxic, so just to be safe.

There you have it! Four DIY Crafts on a Budget of less than $10. Be sure to return for future budget crafts find!
