Sheldon learned the poem as a young child, and his mother would often sing it to him when he needed comfort. As fans know, Sheldon is a terrible patient when he’s sick. He’ll often demand his friends sing him this song to feel better.
Penny even caught on to the song and has demanded it herself. As the show went on the Soft Kitty joke grew, and now it is an iconic moment in TBBT history.

Who would have thought that such an innocent song would bring the television show legal troubles? The lawsuit was filed by two daughters of a nursery school teacher. The daughters claim that their mother wrote the lyrics back in 1937.
However, the charges have been dismissed. A New York judge ruled that those accusing “have failed to establish that they own a valid copyright as necessary to state a copyright infringement claim.”
