The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun, who played Glenn for nearly seven full seasons, recently spoke with GQ about his role and his death on the show. Above all else, he talks about Andrew Lincoln’s performance in the premiere.

“Andrew Lincoln deserves anything and everything. He deserves it all. Every single person on this show kills it all the time—and this episode especially, everybody really brought it. But you’re asking Andrew Lincoln to basically spend ten days in a hole of despair and shit. And he did it,” said Yeun.

The actor said he found Lincoln’s performance as “giving.”

“I’m very lucky that he’s the person—you get to see the death of Glenn [through his eyes]. That caliber of actor. The whole experience was like that. It was watching people crumble,” said the actor behind Glenn.

“It was watching people be there. It was watching people in it so deep. And knowing that part of it was crying for the character, and part of it was knowing that it was coming to an end—when we got to spend some time together.”

The cast is known for having huge dinners together, almost like a live funeral for the next one to leave the show.

Six “Gnarly” Days Waiting Negan’s Kill

Overall, the single scene with Glenn and Abraham being killed took six total days to film, if you count the Season 6 finale where they first met Negan. That’s six days of depression, on their knees, staring into the dirt.

“It was four days of just being there in that pit. And, if you include the year prior, six days total. Just on your knees, on the gravel, pretending and believing that you’re about to die. It was gnarly,” said the actor.

Steven Yeun may come back in the future in a cameo actor.
