Why are our veterans treated so badly sometimes? This most recent case out of Georgia is a sad one.

Gregory Montford, a 59-year-old veteran of the United States, went to cash his $600 benefit check in Atlanta, reports AJC.com. Moments after cashing that much-needed check, someone approached him and demanded he hand over the case.

Montford did not give in, the resilient soldier-ethic he had. That’s when the robber shot him.

Not only did they shoot him, but they shot him in the back — twice!

The robber took the cash and bolted. He or she is still at large in northwest Atlanta.

“It’s one thing to steal from someone who can defend themselves,” said witness Chris Pecoraro. “It’s another thing to steal from someone who can’t.”

This is like that time someone tried to rob the Robertsons, which never happens.

“No one ever tries to mug us — ever,” Jase Robertson said. “They look at us and say, ‘No, it’s not worth it.’”

If it weren’t for Phil Robertson, he and his boys may be in the same situation as Mr. Montford.

Montford, who is also a grandfather, is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital. One of the bullets is still lodged in his back.

Authorities are still looking for the armed robber. If you know anything about this robbery / shooting or have any tips, police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. They’re even offering a $2,000 reward for it.

Let’s all pray that they find this terrible person, this cash-stealing, life-threatening, veteran shooter. He deserves nothing but jail time.
