October Is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month!

What do you think about October being the Adopt A Shelter Dog month? Don’t you think every month should be Adopt Shelter Dogs month? There are so many shelter dogs waiting for a family to love.

But wait! What if you can’t adopt? No problem, here are some easy ways you can still help:

Local shelters or rescue groups (search for groups near you here) have a donation wish list they’d appreciate you posting around your office or neighborhood. check to see if they are holding special events for Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month that you can help promote.

With over 5000 animal shelters and rescue centers around the United States, you should have no problem finding one in your local community

Put your Facebook status to work for shelter dogs. Take a minute to copy and paste this message into the “What’s on your mind?” box at the top of your page: “October is Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month. Save a life: Adopt a dog!”

Shelter dogs come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny Pomeranians to big dog breeds like Great Danes. Tweet, retweet and repeat the following: “Ready to Save a Life? October is Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month. Adopt a dog!” #adoptdontshop 

Share an adoptable dog on your blog, Facebook or Twitter page each day of the month.

Sign up as a foster parent or shelter volunteer then tell your friends how great it is. Contact your local shelter or rescue group to find out how you can help.

Pictures say a thousand words! Ask a local shelter or rescue group if you could photograph their adoptable pets and upload the pics to their social media sites. If they don’t have a website or facebook page, offer to help make that happen.

Donate your time or financially to your local shelter or rescue group in honor of Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month. You’d be amazed how far your dollar can stretch in the right hands to feed and care for shelter dogs. One way to be sure what you give is used wisely is to volunteer. Look at your calendar, select one day a week or twice a month for a couple hours.
