Playing for Barcelona has a lot of advantages. Besides winning titles, you get the chance to meet celebrities like Shakira.

And if you’re handsome like Pique, you can even arrange a date. But Pique wasn’t wearing the Barcelona jersey when he met Shakira.

He was a part of the Spain national team that won the World Cup in 2010. BUT, Barcelona still plays a huge part of the Pique and Shakira love story.

If Pique wasn’t performing on a high level at Barcelona, he wouldn’t receive a call from the Spain coach to join the team.

There are many celebrity couples in football, but Pique and Shakira are definitely the cutest. Football players are often in relationships with models, but Pique made an exception.

He decided to go for a model with an angle voice instead. Pique and Shakira have two sons; Milan and Sasha.

They’re definitely one of the cutest families in football.

How Pique flirted with Shakira

“I met Shakira in Madrid, when we were preparing for the 2010 World Cup, and after appearing in the Waka Waka video,” he explained to TV3.

It all started when we were together in South Africa and I wrote to her. She was already there because she sang in the opening ceremony and I asked her what the weather was like.

It is the typical stupid question, and the normal answer is to tell me to bring a jacket.

But she started telling me what the weather was like in every single moment and it got to the point where I told her we would have to get to the World Cup final to see her again – she was singing at the final.

Once we got to that stage, we might as well win it. We got there and we won.”

But let’s get to football for a while.

Pique also had a comment about the day Messi retires. That’s still in the future, but will be a reality in about 4-5 years.

We all notice how Barcelona struggles to keep up when Messi isn’t playing, and we hope that’s not the case when he retires. Barcelona and the fans have high hopes for the next Barcelona king; Neymar.

He already showed on a few occasions that he can handle the responsibility, but he still needs to improve.

Pique on Messi’s retirement

“[Messi] has been so completely unique, so decisive… When Messi calls it a day, it will be like our father dying and we will have to fly solo – and that is going to be tough.”

“Will Barça always win? No. We have to try to bring in a new, winning era. The day that Messi goes, the ability to win which we have shown in recent years will go too; it will really leave us exposed. But that’s what sport is like.” – Source.
