From Wild Turkey to Scotland Run...
Whether you’re traveling or just looking to get out of the city, New Jersey is a great place to hit the greens. The following list contains information from a panel of experts about the state’s top public golf courses in New Jersey.
Some of our favorites include Ballyowen, Wild Turkey, Heron Glen, Scotland Run, and Royce Brook. However, the big difference in New Jersey is that all of the golf courses are private, so it’s all about who you know to get on the greens.
Public Golf Courses In New Jersey: Ballyowen
In 1998, designer Roger Rulewich created the par 72 golf course, Ballyowen in Hamburg (Sussex). The plateau is a links-style layout. While it’s not the longest or the most iconic course in the Garden State, it’s one of the most intoxicating.
The main challenge in this course is the design (read up on wrist angles here). The longer holes forces golfers to place Hail Mary shots and target strokes. The rating is a 73.6 and the slop is a 131 on this New Jersey course.
