“She’s Beautiful”
Photo Credit: dailymail.co.uk It was really a chance encounter the day they met in New York in 2016. In a city of 8 million people, they ended-up having lunch in the same diner, at the same time. Their meeting was so ironic in fact, that a poem was written to commemorate the occasion. But the off-chance encounter is not really the story-it’s who wrote the poem.
Can you believe it was none other than President Trump’s foe, Rosie O’Donnell? The poem is entitled “8 Million to One” and was written after she met Ivanka and husband, Jared Kushner, in October 2016. The poem starts out with O’Donnell explaining her feelings about a presidential debate between Trump and Clinton.
Then she describes wanting to find a “quiet booth” in the NY diner to have lunch with a friend. After that she begins to talk about seeing Ivanka and Jared at a booth across the way:
“i see a couple
sitting close together
in a small corner booth
directly across from me”
O’Donnell then comments on Ivanka’s beauty and Jared’s charm:
“i watch them
stunned by her face
and his calming charm
they were definitely a THEY”
Shockingly, at first glance, she didn’t recognize the woman who would soon be…

Speaking to her friend Dana, O’Donnell seemed to be very taken aback by how beautiful the woman was, not knowing she was the daughter of a man she hates:
“that is the most beautiful woman i have ever seen
i say aloud to dana
she turns to look – turns back at me
that’s Ivanka”
O’Donnell admits to having mustered up the courage to go and introduce herself to Ivanka- a meeting that would amount to a mere four minutes of conversation. They exchanged pleasantries and briefly discussed motherhood and family. Ultimately, O’Donnell was very surprised and impressed by Ivanka’s warmth and kindness:
“i told her of my children
some truths about myself
my pain and shame
she was absurdly kind”
