John Fitzgerald Kennedy

As he prepares his speech, he is looking to two of America’s most beloved Presidents for inspiration-JFK and Ronald Reagan.

JFK delivered one of the most famous inaugural speeches in American history on January 20th, 1961. A speech that challenged all Americans to “ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”

President Kennedy believed that together we could solve problems. Civility was not a weakness.

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty”

He also knew the work of building a great democracy is never done. Exactly 20 years later…

President Ronald Reagan delivered his first inaugural speech. And when the actor turned President took the stage, he knew exactly what Americans were concerned about. Just as Trump does.

“We suffer from the longest and one of the worst sustained inflations in our national history. It distorts our economic decisions, penalizes thrift, and crushes the struggling young and the fixed-income elderly alike. It threatens to shatter the lives of millions of our people.”

He also knew very well that government was not the solution–it was the problem. The last eight years have proven him to be right.

President Reagan believed as Kennedy did. That we, as citizens of this great country, are responsible for helping our president to create a just and equal society.

President-elect Trump feels the same way.

“Thank you, America. I will not let you down. I will always be your voice. I will always be your champion. Now it’s time to get to work – to unite, to prosper, to become stronger. Together, I have no doubt we have taken the first step to Make America Great Again!”
