Trump Is Standing Tall Against NAFTA
NAFTA talks are once again underway between America and Canada. The message at this point is clear, neither side is willing to concede to the other. The sole purpose of NAFTA is to remove tariff barriers between the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Does NAFTA Need Canada
The question remains whether or not America needs Canada to keep NAFTA intact. It is true that the original agreement is between the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
However, this does not mean that it has to stay that way.
Before Yesterday’s reconvening of NAFTA talks, President Trump announces on Monday that he’s “terminating” the North American Free Trade Agreement. The President also states that he and Mexico just struck “maybe the largest trade deal ever made.”
NAFTA And Mexico
It is true that the President cannot unilaterally dismantle NAFTA but this might be the first steps toward a new trade deal involving Mexico.
We know that our President’s campaign is where he first made reference to his desire to fix NAFTA. President Trump has always been critical of NAFTA. He believes that under its current structure, NAFTA is bad for America.
Whether Americans unilaterally agree with our President or not, the fact still remains that the 24-year-old deal is in need of an overhaul.
