This week, Congressman Trey Gowdy issued new subpoenas for three top officials at the FBI. A move that has some Democrats and liberal media pundits very upset. But their selective outrage begs the question- what they are so afraid of?
“Is this the Benghazi sequel,” asked Newsweek writer Zachary Fryer-Biggs on Wednesday. Biggs’ article came in response to news that Gowdy issued new subpoenas regarding the FBI’s handling of their “non-investigation” of Hillary Clinton.
Then, on Tuesday, Gowdy along with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to make three agency officials available for testimony. The subpoenas compel appearances from Andrew McCabe, Chief-of-Staff Jim Rybicki, and FBI counsel Lisa Page.
Interestingly, all three of these FBI officials figure prominently in Clinton escaping prosecution for mishandling classified documents. Lisa Page, in particular, is the mistress of former Robert Mueller team member Peter Strzok. Strzok is under investigation after being fired by Mueller for exchanging pro-Hillary, anti-Trump text messages with Page.
Not surprisingly, as news of Gowdy’s request started to spread critics began questioning his motives.
“Gowdy used to say insist his Benghazi investigation was never about, or did not evolve into, probe of Clinton’s emails and use of a private server,” said Bloomberg Congressional correspondent Billy House. “But now, he and Goodlatte want to look into why FBI’s inquiry led to no action against Clinton in email matters.”
Additionally, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee also criticized Gowdy for pursuing Clinton. “House Republicans are so afraid of Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation that they would rather reinvestigate five-year old emails than stop an ongoing threat to our democracy,” Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) said in a statement.
Right. The “bulldog” is a lot of things, like bold, determined, and honest. What he isn’t, is afraid. But, given their attacks on Gowdy, it’s hard to say the same about Democrats like Rep Krishnamoorthi or media sites like Newsweek and Bloomberg.
Maybe they’re worried Gowdy will finally put a stop to the Clinton cover-ups. Or perhaps they fear he’ll expose the malicious, politically motivated attacks on President Trump? Either way, only the guilty run scared. And we don’t see Trey Gowdy running anywhere anytime soon.
