During Monday’s House Intelligence Meeting, South Carolina Congressman, Trey Gowdy, didn’t hold back. During his questioning of FBI Director, James Comey, he demanded answers regarding intelligence leaks that have hindered Trump’s presidency. Then he went where few others have dared to go.
Pointing out the seriousness of the leaks, and the public’s waning trust, Gowdy asked Comey if an investigation was imminent
“We the American people give certain powers to government to keep us safe. When those powers are misused…I’ll bet you my fellow citizens are rethinking their side of the equation. That US citizen could be them next time. It could be you. It could be me. It could be anyone.”
Gowdy relentlessly dogged Comey about who might be responsible for the intelligence leaks and without hesitation, named several former Obama administration officials. His list included former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch and ex-White House adviser Ben Rhodes.
Comey, visibly frustrated, admitted that each of those officials had access to the leaked information about Michael Flynn’s call to Sergei Kislyak-except for Rhodes. Leaking that intelligence is a felony punishable by 10 years in prison. Comey “promised” the FBI would take the disclosure…
It’s incredibly hard to imagine that Comey would take seriously any investigation of Democrats. Certainly Rep. Gowdy was not convinced. His determined pursuit of Comey at the hearing was reminiscent of his days as chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi.
Gowdy spent weeks grilling then Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, about her lack of action concerning the attack in Benghazi, Libya. To this day, he remains dutifully dedicated to revealing the truth about that fateful night.
Unfortunately for Comey, he will likely remain no less dedicated to pursuing the truth about the intelligence leaks. Gowdy recently gave a radio interview where he called-out Democrats and the media for their “hypocritical” attacks on AG Jeff Sessions. Seems the “Bulldog” has a bone to pick with Comey-and it’s definitely crunch time.
