Will Islam Overtake Christianity By 2070?
Muslim Studies | Photo Credit Biyokulue Some researchers claim that Islam will overtake Christianity by the year 2070, making Islam the largest religion. Over the next fifty years, Muslim populations in America and Europe will also increase, according to a study from the Pew Research Center.
In a short period of time, the 1.6 billion Muslims will potentially increase by 73 percent, specifically within Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India. The growing Muslim population in Europe is one reason for the major growth over the past few years and future fifty years.
In 2010, Muslims were about 25 percent of the world’s population, but in 2050, Muslims will also make up 10 percent of the European nation. India may also pass Indonesia in becoming the nation with the largest Muslim population.
Some of this is due to how many children Muslims have on average.

The Pew Report said, “Around the world, each Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children, compared with 2.3 for all other groups combined.” As Muslims in America grow, the attitude towards Muslims will also start to change.
In America, “Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they are very concerned about extremism in the name of Islam around the world, 67 percent versus 40 percent…”
Many Americans also believe Islam encouraged violence.

Overall, the report ended by saying that countries with smaller groups of Islamic people are somewhat ignorant about Islam. In 2010, a different study was given and half of these participants surveyed didn’t know anything about Islamic practices.
As the number of Muslims increase in America, the political debates about Muslim migration to Europe, Canada, and the U.S. will continue to spark conversations about radical Islamic terror groups.
