Just days after gunman, James Hodgkinson, opened fire on Rebulican congressman in Arlington, VA, Democrat strategist, James Devine, launched a new campaign. Not only is it reprehensible, it is borderline criminal. At the very least, it serves as a perfect example of the violent political rhetoric that encourages people like Hodgkinson to kill.
Responding to the shooting of House Majority Whip, Steve Scalise, and three others, Devine sent out a tweet that introduced the mind-blowing hashtags. “We are in a war with selfish, foolish & narcissistic rich people,” wrote Devine. “Why is it a shock when things turn violent? #HuntRebublicanCongressman. In a second tweet, he added #HuntRepublicans.”
According to Fox News, Devine has run for office, consulted for numerous New Jersey campaigns, and worked in the offices of state lawmakers. He’s also a blogger. Devine gave an interview to MyCentralJersey.com, where he defended his vile response to the shooting. “If you want to invite a class war, then you have to expect people to fight back at some point,” he remarked.
On his Facebook page, Devine also posted that he had “little sympathy” for Scalise because of his voting record on gun control. Seriously? So, it’s alright to kill or wound someone simply because they disagree with you? We shouldn’t be surprised, but we are. Not so much surprised Devine said that, just surprised he’s not in jail.
The left is undeniably confused about what freedom of speech actually encompasses. Yes, a person has the right to say what they want, no matter how hateful or disgusting it may be, but they do not have the right to incite or encourage violence. If an individual jumps-up and shouts “fire” in a crowded theater, they go to jail.
Devine, has espoused that his comments were meant to “shock” not to advocate for violence. “It is insensitive and I don’t care. You want me to be politically correct? I don’t have time for that anymore,” he said. “I’m not apologizing if it offended snowflake Republicans.”
Several NJ Democrats denounced Devine’s comments. “In this day and age, we have to be very careful in what we say or how we say it,” Union County Democratic Chairman Jerry Green said. “I do not support the hunting of any people, Democrat or Republican.” Hopefully, the Secret Service has taken notice of Devine’s “activism.”
