As a former model, First Lady Melania Trump knows a thing or two about fashion. From curve-hugging dresses to camo green jackets and sneakers, she always rocks her look.
As we wait to see what new styles Melania will dazzle the world with in 2018, here’s a look at our five favorite fashion moments from 2017.
Mrs. Trump wowed on inauguration day in a sophisticated powder blue dress from designer Ralph Lauren. Channeling her idol, former First Lady Jackie Kennedy, the cashmere ensemble had ¾ length sleeves and a high mock-turtleneck neckline.
With her matching blue pumps and sparkling diamond earrings, the only thing brighter on inauguration day was Melania’s gorgeous smile. Although Barack and Michelle Obama finally leaving the White House was a close second.
Black in Belgium
Visiting Belgium in May, Melania donned a beautiful mid-calf length black dress. The off-the-shoulder lacy Dolce and Gabbana accentuated her feminine curves. Of course, her rose and crystal embellished pump sandals perfectly highlighted the attention-grabbing dress.
In Brussels, the first lady met with sick children at the Queen Fabiola Children’s Hospital. During her visit, she did arts and crafts and presented children with several gifts, including Dr. Seuss books. Unlike a school in Massachusetts, the hospital didn’t reject her books.
Despite having an impeccable taste for fashion, Mrs. Trump is often the target of media ridicule. After Hurricane Harvey ravaged Houston, Texas, Melania joined President Trump to tour the area. She boarded Air Force One in her customary high-heel pumps, causing a media meltdown.
However, as the press found out, she had no intentions of wading around the flooded streets in stilettos. Instead, Melania went with black crop pants, a crisp white blouse, sneakers, and a black “FLOTUS” ball cap. Apparently, like beauty, common sense is in the “eye of the beholder.”
Awesome in Asia
The first lady accompanied her husband on a 12-day diplomatic trip to East Asia in November. While she wore several different outfits, her black and white floral was a favorite.
For the welcome ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, she opted to wear an Asian-inspired floor-length flower dress from Dolce and Gabbana. But her friendly personality, not her clothes, inevitably won the hearts of both children and pandas.
Unfortunately, Melania took a lot of flack for her gorgeous holiday decorations. However, the vicious attacks from left-wing media didn’t prevent the first lady from enjoying her first White House Christmas.
At a holiday event for military children, Mrs. Trump dazzled in a winter-white gown. The mid-length dress featured a high neckline, 3/4 sleeves, and a gold metallic belt. Melania paired the festive dress with matching gold stilettos, prompting one child to remark that she “looked like an angel.”
