Melania Trump Returns to Public Eye to Honor Gold Star Families
First Lady Melania Trump finally put an end to the rumors about her absence on Monday. She was attending a reception to honor families of fallen soldiers. This is the first event for Mrs. Trump since she underwent surgery for a benign kidney ailment nearly a month ago.
Monday morning, the first lady began her week by addressing the media rumors “I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing,” she tweeted. “Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people.”
Indeed, there was a great deal of speculation concerning Melania’s whereabouts the past twenty days. As you might suspect, most of the “theories” came from left-leaning news sites. The New York Daily News demanded answers and NBC suggested her absence threatened foreign policy.
While most of their ideas were tame (or lame), a few were wildly outrageous. Rolling Stone claimed Melania hid to “conceal abuse” by President Trump. Similarly, The Atlantic senior editor David Frum suggested the president abused his wife and somehow managed to cover it up.
“Suppose President Trump punched the First Lady in the White House (federal property = federal jurisdiction), then ordered the Secret Service to conceal the assault,” Frum wrote. “POTUS has Article II authority over Secret Service. Is that obstruction? Under Sekulow/Dowd, apparently NO”
While we hope that was a tasteless joke, we wouldn’t be shocked if Frum believed the nonsense he tweeted. Lord knows his followers ate it up which is why it’s so irresponsible to say it in the first place.
Then again that is leftist journalism, right? 90% theory, 10% fact.
Nevertheless, the first lady is back in action.
