The Illegal Acquitted Of Murdering Kate Steinle Sues The Federal Government

Illegal immigrant Jose Inez Garcia-Zarate got away with murder when a California court acquitted him in the shooting death of Kate Steinle. But that victory wasn’t enough and now he is suing the federal and state government for “vindictive prosecution.”

Last week, lawyers representing Zarate filed a motion that essentially claims their client is a victim. In the court documents, they argue that comments made by then-candidate Donald Trump, among other things, have caused Zarate unnecessary harm.

“Almost immediately after the death of Ms. Steinle, then presidential candidate Donald Trump began to use Mr. Garcia-Zarate as the symbol of the dangers of illegal immigrants and the need for a wall between the United States and Mexico,” the motion read.

In addition, the suit also cites Trump’s tweet about the not guilty verdict as proof the system treated Zarate unfairly. “A disgraceful verdict in the Kate Steinle case! No wonder the people of our Country are so angry with Illegal Immigration,” Trump said in November.

After a California jury acquitted him in the death of Steinle, the Justice Department filed federal charges against Zarate. Those charges included being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and being in illegal in possession of firearms and ammunition.

According to the lawsuit, he is demanding all the communication between federal, state, and local police regarding the case. He alleges that “federal agencies colluded with the San Francisco police, district attorney’s office and sheriff’s office.”

Criminal Convictions and Deportations

In total, he has seven prior felony convictions and was deported five times before he murdered 32-year old Steinle. He effectively evaded federal immigration officials by taking refuge in San Francisco, one of California’s largest sanctuary cities.

Suffice it to say, this is almost as outrageous as the not guilty verdict. If anyone has a right to sue it’s the family of Kate Steinle. California sanctuary laws are responsible for her death and most likely the reason Zarate is not a convicted murderer.

If there is any collusion going on, it’s about keeping illegal immigrants safe at the expense of American lives.
