James Comey

comePhoto credit: ABC Looks like justice has finally been served– at least partially. The White House just announced that FBI Director, James Comey, has just been terminated by the president. Many people are shocked that it took this long, given Comey’s undying loyalty to Hillary Clinton. Some have wondered why he was kept on in the first place.

ABC News is reporting:

Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office, the White House statement reads. “President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions,” the statement said.

In addition to a statement, the White House released the letter that Trump wrote directly to Comey dismissing him at the recommendation of the attorney general and the deputy attorney general, effective immediately. “While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau,” Trump wrote.

It was recently revealed that Comey’s investigation into Hillary Clinton, was influenced by former Obama DOJ Secretary Lorretta Lynch. In addition, there were questions raised about Comey’s potential involvement in illegal wire taps.

President Trump’s letter also stated that it was crucial to find new leadership that “could restore public trust and confidence,” citing it as essential to the mission of law enforcement. Comey had been working tirelessly to repair the severely damaged reputation of the bureau and gave his approval for the new series airing on USA Network, “Inside the FBI,” to be filmed at the New York headquarters.

In his testimony before Congress last week, Comey drew sharp criticism for suggesting that Clinton couldn’t be prosecuted for mishandling classified emails because “she didn’t know what she was doing was wrong.” President Trump has often been critical of Comey as well, having said that the FBI director was the “best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton.”

Andrew McCabe, Comey’s deputy, will be interim director until a permanent replacement can be found.
