Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee are ending their probe into allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. A draft report confirmed there is no evidence to substantiate the Democrats’ conspiracy theory.
On Monday, GOP members of the committee announced they are closing their investigation regarding collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. They plan to release a final report detailing their findings in the upcoming days.
The committee does confirm that Russian players did meddle in the 2016 presidential election. However, they also said there is no evidence that the meddling specifically helped Donald Trump.
“After more than a year, the committee has finished its Russia investigation and will now work on completing our report,” said chairman Devin Nunes. “Once the committee’s final report is issued, we hope our findings and recommendations will be useful for improving security and integrity for the 2018 midterm elections.”
Not surprisingly, Democrats are furious over the decision and plan to release a report of their own. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the committee, likened the decision to an act of surrender.
“By ending its oversight role in the only authorized investigation in the House, the majority has placed the interests of protecting the president over protecting the country, and history will judge its actions harshly,” Schiff said in a statement.
Apparently, it never occurred to Schiff that the committee is protecting the country by ending the probe. After all, it has been taking away from real issues like fighting illegal immigration. Although we suspect that was all part of the Democrats’ plan.
Responding to the announcement, President Trump shared the news on Twitter (in all caps). “THE HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE HAS, AFTER A 14 MONTH LONG IN-DEPTH INVESTIGATION, FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF COLLUSION OR COORDINATION BETWEEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIA TO INFLUENCE THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION,” Trump tweeted.
Obviously, this is good news because the mainstream media gave it a whole one minute of coverage. But it’s not the end of the ordeal by any means. Despite millions of dollars, 15 months of investigating, and zero evidence, Special Counsel Robert Mueller continues his fishing expedition.
What do you want to bet it lasts all the way through the mid-term elections?
