The last two weeks have been very bad for left-leaning media sites. Outright false or misleading stories from ABC and CNN have drawn the ire of President Trump. However, the issue of fake news is not the only problem provoking his anger.
Allegations of sexual misconduct are dominating the news cycle. Particularly where those being levied against the president are concerned. Supporting his accusers, New York Senator Kristen Gillibrand called for Trump to resign. That, as they say, is when the fight started.
President Trump took issue with Gillibrand’s statement and he fired back on Twitter. That tweet created a media firestorm and led USA Today to publish a scathing op-ed piece. The article, “Will Trump’s low ever hit rock bottom?’ is a black mark on journalism, to say the least.
Unfit for Journalism
In the blistering piece, the outlet’s editors accuse Trump of being deliberately cruel. “And as is the case with all of Trump’s digital provocations, the president’s words were deliberate,” they wrote. “He pours the gasoline of sexist language and lights the match gleefully knowing how it will burst into flame in a country reeling from the #MeToo moment.”
USA Today drove in the daggers. “A president who would all but call Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand a whore, is not fit to clean the toilets in the Barack Obama Presidential Library or to shine the shoes of George W. Bush,” they opined.
Not surprisingly, outlets like The Hill shared the piece lauding it as a victory for Trump-hating media. Their followers, along with CNN readers, joined the celebration by collectively sharing the vile attack more than 100k times.
However, regardless of the enthusiasm for the story, it is not a success. On the contrary, it’s a total and reprehensible failure. Not to mention being an affront to every writer, editor and media outlet that strives to put integrity in their work. It also begs an important question:
When will leftist media’s low ever hit rock bottom?
