In the pre-dawn hours, President Trump sent a clear and decisive message to Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, in retaliation for the chemical weapons attack in the Idlib province four days ago.

Fox News reported:

The United States launched nearly five dozen cruise missiles at a Syrian airfield early Friday in response to a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians, the first direct assault on the Damascus government since the beginning of that country’s bloody civil war in 2011. Fifty-nine Tomahawk missiles targeted an airbase at Shayrat, located outside Homs. The missiles targeted the base’s airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, officials said.

Additional early morning reports indicate that the missile strike damaged dozens of airplane hangars, a fuel depot, and air defense base. There are also reports of both civilian and military casualties, though there has been no indication of exactly how many are dead or injured.

A Syrian official confirmed the casualties, and several fires, but did not elaborate further on the damage. The base that was targeted was the staging point for the chemical attack carried out on Tuesday that was responsible for the deaths of more than 70 Syrians, including…

President Trump issued an official statement on the missile strike:

“It is in the vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons. Tonight, I call on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria, and also to end terrorism of all kinds and all types.”

Earlier in the week Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, joined Trump in condemning the horrific attack and urged Russia and Iran to do the same. From his Mar-A-Lago estate Thursday evening, President Trump referred to Assad directly saying he “choked out the lives of helpless men, women, and children” and that “no child of God should ever suffer such horror.”
