DNC Vice Chair Publicly Tweets Support for Repealing Second Amendment
What’s the quickest way to ensure President Trump stays in the White House in 2020? How about having a vice chair for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) show support for repealing the Second Amendment. Christmas just came eight months early for Republicans.
In case you missed it, last week retired Supreme Court associate justice John Paul Stevens called for repealing the Second Amendment. While his argument, that the right to bear arms is antiquated is ideologically and factually absurd, it does deserve recognition for its honesty.
Let me explain.
It’s no secret that Democrats want to abolish the National Rifle Association. The NRA is the only thing, (besides millions of legal gun owners), standing in their way of getting the guns. And make no mistake, that is what the DNC wants. Stephens at least had the guts to say it.
Apparently, State Senator Karen Carter Peterson has guts too. The DNC Vice Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Participation, Peterson is a voice for her party. And she publicly tweeted support for Stephens’ New York Times op-ed.
Not only that, which from a political standpoint is bad enough, Peterson added four words that could surely spell death for the DNC. Along with the story, the Louisiana State Democratic Party chairwoman posted, “Repeal the Second Amendment.”
Not surprisingly, Peterson’s not well thought out tweet has Democrats running for cover. Namely Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Director Stephen Handwerk, who is now mastering the backstroke.
The [Democrat] party is “a strong supporter of the Second Amendment that protects Americans’ rights to bear arms,” said Handwerk. When asked if the tweet accurately reflected the party’s position, he responded, “Of course not.”
Right. It gets better.
