Just over 150 years ago, 11 southern states unilaterally decided to secede from the United States. Two additional states, Missouri and Kentucky attempted to secede but were prevented from doing so by their pro-union state governments. The purpose of the secession, a right guaranteed by the Constitution, was to protest the extreme economic sanctions and taxation imposed by the federal government.
CALEXIT is a poor imitation.

Wars of Necessity
The newly formed Confederate States of America was forced into battle to protect their homes, families, and economic independence from being destroyed just as their fathers and grandfathers had done with the British some 90 years before. Both of these wars were necessitated by the threats of a future dominated by tyrannical rule and economic oppression.
On June 23rd, 2016 the citizens of Great Britain voted to withdraw from the European Union which led to a toppling of the government and the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron. Much like the United States in 1776 and the Confederate States in 1861, Britain’s “leave” supporters, a group largely comprised of the poor and middle class, sought to fight against what they viewed as the “ruling-class establishment”.

Fast-forward to November 8th, 2016. Businessman Donald Trump has just been elected as America’s 45th President in an election many have compared to the Brexit vote. Similar to the citizens of Great Britain, Americans came out in droves to show their displeasure for the Washington D.C establishment, socialist progressives, and society’s elite.
Now, California wants out.
Real-life or Fantasy?
In what could be considered a political episode of the Twilight Zone, a movement has begun, initiated by those who supported the losing candidate, to have the state of California secede from the United Sates and become an independent nation. The Yes California Independence Campaign is expected to send residents to the polls in the spring of 2019 to vote on the referendum noting that,
“In our view, the United States of America represents so many things that conflict with Californian values, and our continued statehood means California will continue subsidizing the other states to our own detriment, and to the detriment of our children”

Values or Validation?
Let’s be clear, what they are actually saying is that CALEXIT is a rebellion against the traditional American values of family, faith, and freedom that have no place in their socialist/Marxist culture of intolerance and ignorance. They do not want peace and unity; they want to throw a childish temper tantrum to get their way. They want a “nation” where the only thing they have to tolerate is the sound of their own magnanimous voices. They do not care about values, they simply want their imperialistic attitudes and beliefs to be validated.
A War of Convenience
Unlike the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and Brexit, this is a not a war of necessity it is one of convenience. These individuals are not seeking independence from tyranny and economic oppression, they are fighting to remain the tyrants and oppressors. They did not get their participation trophy and they are mad.
We wish them a fond farewell.
