Democrats in Congress are working hard to pass their “Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors” bill known as the DREAM Act. But a new federal budget report shows the dream is more like a nightmare for hard-working Americans.
Obama’s “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals”, or DACA, allowed children of illegal immigrants to remain in the United States. Of the approximately 12 million illegals currently living in America, 3.25 million are DREAMers.
President Trump ended the controversial program earlier this year as part of his immigration reform. He subsequently called on Congress to find a better solution. They obviously didn’t understand his directions.
On Friday, the Congressional Budget Office issued a new report detailing the cost to keep DREAMers in the country. According to the CBO, it will cost taxpayers $2.95 billion a year over the next decade. Yes, you read that right.
Moreover, recipients will be eligible for Medicaid, food stamps, education funding, and several other government entitlements. Even worse, CBO estimates that only one million will become legal U.S. citizens during that ten-year period. And guess what? Those that do gain citizenship, will be able to sponsor other family members.
Not the American Dream
Suffice it to say, this is entirely unacceptable. Democrats like Nancy Pelosi said that Trump’s tax reforms will hurt middle-class America. Yet here they are, trying to pass a bill that will cripple taxpayers. And they are willing to shut down the government to pass the legislation.
It stands to reason that there are much better ways to spend $25 billion dollars. Especially when that expenditure only results in minor revenue increases. How about giving social security recipients a bigger raise? After all, they have earned that money which is more than we can say for some of the illegal immigrants collecting checks.
Regardless, taxpayers cannot afford to shoulder the burden of illegal immigration. Poverty, homelessness, and the opioid crisis are ravaging the country. Americans are just now getting back to work and pulling out of the hole Obama put them in. Now, Democrats want to drop them right back into desperation?
Thanks, but no thanks. Trump supporters will stick with a dream that doesn’t turn the nation into a third-world disaster zone.
