Friday was a bad day for the anti-Trump liberal media. Several major news outlets ran with a “bombshell” ABC story that Michael Flynn contacted Russia at the behest of then-candidate Donald Trump. Soon after that story came out, ABC issued a “correction.”

On Friday, mainstream media capitalized on news that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI. However, World News Tonight investigative reporter Brian Ross took the hysteria to a new level.

Ross erroneously reported that, as part of his plea deal, Flynn was going to testify that Trump colluded with Russia. His story was shared thousands of times on social media, and Trump-haters declared victory.

Of course, their celebration was short lived. Late in the evening, ABC posted a correction to their story which all but said it was fake news. Ross made the announcement on World News Tonight, Friday evening:

“[A] clarification tonight on something one of Flynn’s confidants told us and we reported earlier today. He said the president had asked Flynn to contact Russia during the campaign. He’s now clarifying that saying, according to Flynn, candidate Trump asked him during the campaign to find ways to repair relations with Russia and other world hot spots. And then after the election, the president-elect asked him to contact Russia on issues including working together to fight ISIS.”

The Suspension

ABC suspends their Chief Investigative Correspondent, Brian Ross, for misleading Trump story.

Following that explanation, the network confirmed they suspended Ross over the screw-up. “It is vital we get the story right and retain the trust we have built with our audience — these are our core principles,” said ABC. “We fell far short of that yesterday. Effective immediately, Brian Ross will be suspended for four weeks without pay.”

President Trump reacted to the news of Ross’ suspension, once again calling out fake news. “Congratulations to @ABC News for suspending Brian Ross for his horrendously inaccurate and dishonest report on the Russia, Russia, Russia Witch Hunt,” he tweeted. “More networks and “papers” should do the same with their Fake News!”

If nothing else, this debacle clearly proves that anti-Trump bias is plaguing liberal media. There is way too much speculation and not enough investigation. Although, as we’ve pointed out previously, it’s hard to believe that misleading the public isn’t their intent. After all, how else could they get 25,000 shares on Twitter?
